Posted on August 23rd, 2010

Hi all! It’s Monday and here is another Russian slang lesson! :D

I typed the words using with different examples:

Стрелка [STRYEL-ka] = a date
Example:
Я завтра иду на стрелку!
[YA ZAV-tra i-DOO]
Translation:
I am going on a date tomorrow!

Забить стрелку [za-BIT’ STRYEL-koo] = to ask someone out (on a date)
Example:
Я забил стрелку с Олей.
[YA za-BIL STRYEL-koo s O-ley]
Translation:
I asked Olya on a date.

Капуста [ka-POOS-ta] = money. Literally this word means “cabbidge” and as a slang word it means – “money”.
Example:
Я люблю капусту!
[YA lyub-L’OO ka-POOS-too]
Translation:
No, no, it does not mean that you like cabbage, it means – I like money.

Нарубить капусты [na-roo-BIT’ ka-POOS-ti] = make some money
Example:
С нового проэкта я точно нарублю кучу капусты.
[s NO-va-va pra-EK-ta YA TOCH-na na-roob-LYOO KOO-choo ka-POOS-ti]
Translation:
I’ll definitely make a lot of money from the new project.

Ящик [YA-shik] = TV
Example:
Ты часто смотришь ящик?
[TEE CHAS-ta SMOT-rish YA-shik]
Translation:
Do you often watch TV?

Hope you had fun today!
