Russian Slang and Idioms. Lesson 4.

Our slang lesson today is a little special, it is dedicated to technology and is very easy! You will learn a few slang words that are very popular in Russian and will help you to understand others and express yourself in your every day speech!

And here are the words:

Мобилка [ma-BIL-ka] or Мобила [ma-BI-la] means the same thing – mobile or cell phone.
Example:
У меня новая классная мобилка.
[oo mi-NYA NO-va-ya ma-BIL-ka]
Translation:
I have a new cool mobile phone.

Комп [KOMP] – is shortened from “компьютер” – computer
Example:
Мне подарили прикольный комп.
[MNYE pa-da-RI-li pri-KOL’-neey KOMP]
Translation:
I was given a cool computer as a gift.

Електронка [e-lyek-TRON-ka] –  “електронная почта”  or email
Example:
Отправь мне письмо по электронке, пожалуйста.
[at-PRAV’ MNYE pis’-MO pa e-lek-TRON-kye pa-ZHA-looy-sta]
Translation:
Please send me an email (so much shorter in English! :smile1_tb:)

Телек [TYE-lyek] – TV set
Example:
Ты любишь смотреть телек?
[TEE LYOO-bish smat-RYET’ TYE-lyekf]
Translation:
Do you like watching TV?

Фотик [FO-tik] –  is shortened from “фотоаппарат” – camera
Example:
Можно одолжить твой фотик?
Translation:
Can I borrow your camera?

Фотка [FOT-ka] – is shortened from “фотография” – photo or picture
Example:
Какая красивая фотка!
Translation:
What a beautiful picture!
