As you know, slang is a very important part of our day-to-day communication. If we  feel comfortable with the person we are communicating, we could throw a slang word or two in our conversation. Using slang words not only makes our conversation less formal, but also adds extra spice and colorfulness to it. Don’t you think?

Today, I will share some of the most common slang expressions in Russian with you. Nothing too rude, don’t worry, just a few words that might make you look cooler

Here they are:
Грузить [groo-ZEET’] – 1. v. share too much information with someone, 2. share information with someone, that the person you are talking to considers boring, uninteresting or useless.
Example:
– Разговор – эта важная часть нашей повседневности…
– Пожалуйста, не грузи меня! Я очень устала.

Translation:
–    Communication is a very important part of our daily lives.
–    Please, don’t tell me all of this! I’m very tired.

Зелёный [zee-LYO-niy] (adj.) – someone who is very young, or doesn’t have enough experience in a certain area or field.
Example:
– Эта новенькая – совсем зелёная, по-моему это её первая работа.
Translation:
– That new girl is so inexperienced. I think this is her first job.

Прикольно/ый [pree-KOL’-na] or [pree-KOL’-niy] (adj.) – cool, very nice (can be an adjective and an adverb)
Example:
– У тебя прикольный (adj.) шарфик.
Translation:
– Your scarf is very cool.

Example:
– Я сам сделал эту фотографию.
– Прикольно.

Translation:
–    I took that photograph.
–    Cool.

Бабки [BAB-kee] (n.) – money
Example:
– У тебя есть с собой бабки?

Translation:
– Do you have money with you?

Кайфово [kay-FO-va] (adj.) – very good
Example:
– Мы так кайфово отдохнули в отпуске.
Translation:
– We had a really good vacation.

Отморозиться [at-ma-RO-zeet-sya] 1. Give impression that you cannot recognize that person, 2. Give impression that something is not important to you, when in fact it is. 3. Give impression that you don’t know something. (verb in all instances).

Example:
– Виктор отморозился и даже не посмотрел на меня. (сделал вид, что он меня не узнал).
Translation:
– Victor tried to give impression that he doesn’t know me, he didn’t event look at me.

Обалденный [a-bal-DYEN-niy]  (adj.) или обалденно (adv.) –  wonderful, great, superb, gorgeous (I personally use this one a lot! :clap_tb: )
Example:
– Вид отсюда обалденный!
Translation:
– The view is gorgeous from here!

Example:
– Ты выглядешь обалденно!
Translation:
– You look wonderful!

Навороченный [na-va-RO-che-niy] (adj.) или навороченно [na-va-RO-che-na] (adv.) – 1. Something that has a lot of different functions. 2. Something that has many different ornaments, decorations.
Example:
– Мой брат купил себе навороченную машину.
Translation:
– My brother bought himself (an expensive/or a car that has many features) car.

Раздраконить [raz-dra-KO-neet’] (verb) – to make someone really angry.
Example:
Мой босс раздраконил меня с утра пораньше.
Translation:
My boss made me very angry this morning.

На постой [na pas-TOY] – to do something on a regular basis
Example:
Он сидит в баре на постой.
Translation:
He is constantly at the bar.
